The Perry Building in downtown Lima, Ohio, is home to PERRY proTECH and other area businesses, and it has been in the Perry family for years. This old brick structure was retrofitted with an Exterior Insulation and Finish System (EIFS), and after almost 20 years the system was showing its age and required attention.

The experts at Trisco Construction Services (TCS) were contacted to review the condition of the EIFS and asked for recommendations to add service life to the system. After performing various field investigations and consulting with Dryvit Corporation, a leading EIFS manufacturer, TCS proposed a viable rejuvenation program changing and enhancing the aesthetics of the building.

Repairing the existing EIFS was the first priority.  All exterior paint was removed, various wall sections replaced, and updated over-cladding wall sections with a new EIFS system. Architectural enhancements using Dryvit’s Custom Brick and Lymestone systems, along with other components, were used to create a new facade incorporating new columns, cornice belts and a water table.

The dramatic results were well-received by the family and the local community. The new brick and stone, along with new features, would have been cost-prohibitive if performed using conventional masonry materials. By using new technology, as well as some imagination, not only was the old EIFS system properly repaired and rejuvenated, but the entire building was given new life by virtue of its new facade.
